By Nicole Hosto, writer for the Wisconsin State Farmer

Wisconsin will be home to the first ever World Clydesdale Show, scheduled for October 12-14, 2007 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

With the large draw of the Wisconsin State Fair Clydesdale show, Wisconsin's enthusiasm and support of the Clydesdale industry makes it a perfect site for such an illustrious event.

Not only is Wisconsin a great state to host such a dynamic event, but it also has the venue needed to host this large-scale show.

World Clydesdale Show

“The Alliant Energy Center is perfect to showcase this one-of-a-kind event,” believes Lisa Banga, World Clydesdale Show Secretary. “At the Alliant Energy Center our show has tradeshow space, wonderful outdoor work areas and a beautiful Coliseum to showcase the Clydesdales. Plus it's not just an agriculture facility, it's a high-class venue that offers the elegance and professionalism that our show has.”

In addition, there are over 900 box stalls, which will provide comfort and plenty of space for these working horses. If the show does reach the anticipated 500 head, it'll be the largest number of Clydesdales ever together in one spot.

No doubt the best of the best will come out to compete over the three-day show, where over $70,000 in prize monies to be awarded.

The tentative program of classes has a full slate with halter classes, riding classes featuring Western and English riding, and hitch classes that range from single carts to full eight-horse hitches. There will also be fun classes like Best Four Bred & Owned by Exhibitor, Amateur Owner Driving, and "not so junior" driver for exhibitors over 65. . In addition, there will be a full program offered for the youth participants – see the juniors show saddle, at halter, and in the driving arena. The tentative line-up promises to have a class for everyone.

With tradeshows, seminars, entertainment and high-class shows; the World Clydesdale Show will have visitors galore.

"Plans are full force ahead for holding the greatest gathering of Clydesdales in history,” stated Banga. “We're planning an event that is for Clydesdale exhibitors, horse enthusiasts, spectators, industry people and breeders from across the globe. We want to provide something so everyone can go a little horse crazy!”

With plans coming together, focus is currently on driving for donations and sponsorship.

Major sponsor, Anheuser Busch has committed to the success of the show by sending one of their elite Budweiser Clydesdale hitches to perform, educate and entertain during the show.

The World Clydesdale Show has also earned a Wisconsin Agricultural Growth Foundation grant. Jack and Sue Shaw, of Great American Clydesdales, have also pledged $10,000.

While planning is well underway, sponsorships on every monetary level are still available. To be involved or find out more visit the World Clydesdale show website at www.worldclydesdaleshow.com.
